Skeet On Mischa
Pushy Questions For Molly Lambert

A while ago, Variety had a feature called “Pushy Questions For,” where an actor or a producer or a writer filled out a questionnaire to promote their latest project. It was shameless promotion, but at the same time, one was able to learn the influences, inspirations and likes/dislikes of a good actor or interesting writer. For some reason, Variety discontinued the feature. We’ve decided to bring it back here at the Skeet On…Empire. In the first edition of this hopefully semi regular feature, we grill Molly Lambert, the managing editor of the popular web site, This Recording and one of the more popular personalities on Tumblr. Her Tumblr blog can be found here about her various likes and views.

Book I’m reading:

Agatha Christie short stories

Total number of books I own:

man, a lot

Three books that mean a lot to me:

The Autobiography Of Benjamin Franklin, Moby Dick, the dictionary

Which faux redhead would you like to see to go back to their natural color:

You know, I think it really enhances most of them for the better. But they all know the truth, deep down at their roots.

Last film I saw:

In a theater? I think Wall*E, which I saw at the valley Arclight with my family. Which was awesome enough to begin with, and then we saw Snoop from The Wire in the parking structure with a ridiculously hot chick wearing a The Chronic baby tee.

Three films that mean a lot to me:

Dumbo, Sullivan’s Travels, The Long Goodbye

Who do you think is the best actor in Hollywood at the moment? (male or female)

Javier Bardem

Who do you think was the brightest star of the silver screen?

Bette Davis

If you could have any actor play you in a movie, who would it be and why?

Jeffrey Wright, because he’s so insanely versatile.

Segway “(http://www.theinsider.com/news/879275_Raven_Symone_on_a_Segway)

Don Draper or Cary Grant:

Trick question. Don Draper is Cary Grant.

Huell Howser or Rick Steves:

Huell!

American Apparel or Something Cooler:

Cooler = Forever 21?

Cutest animal:

Cats put the bar very high. Baby elephants are a close second.

Who do you look to for inspiration?

Daniel Pinkwater, Bill Murray, Mary Shelley, Jean Shepherd, The Best Show On WFMU, Alan Watts and David Foster Wallace.

How do you handle guys asking you out via e-mail or trying to write pseudo intellectual material to impress you:

That hasn’t really happened to me. I get a lot of press releases. Ask Molly Young

Song currently playing in my iPod:

The most recent full album I listened to is “Lessons In Love” by Lloyd. It’s great.

Three songs that mean a lot to me:

“Four Page Letter” - Aaliyah

“Without You” - Harry Nilsson and also Mariah Carey

“Hot Burrito #1” - Gram Parsons

Concert that changed your life:

My first concert ever was a Grateful Dead New Year’s Eve show in the bay area that my parents took me and my brother to. I was probably 8? At midnight they cut open nets on the ceiling and it rained balloons. That kind of set the tone for my expectations of the live music experience.

Guilty pleasures:

I don’t really believe in guilty pleasures. If it’s pleasurable, I don’t feel guilty about it. But I’m super into Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, both of those albums have some serious jams. I’m having late-onset pre-adolescence.

Favorite TV shows:

“The Wire,” Mad Men, Gossip Girl, waiting for 30 Rock to start again

Favorite Films:

I just got the Agnes Varda box set for my birthday, so I anticipate a lot of Agnes Varda screenings in my future. I also sprang for the nice edition of Zodiac with the commentary and it was totally worth it. Zodiac was a big hit with me.

Reading material:

I really love Julia Wertz’s comic “The Fart Party” (http://www.fartparty.org/2008/09/05/embarrassing-bike-ride/)

Web sites:

ONTD (http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/)

What’s the biggest upside of the Internet and what is its biggest downside?

Upside: free porn and music Downside: enslaved by availability of free porn and music

Do you have a dream project?:

If I could somehow get paid to do This Recording, that would be kind of a dream project. Otherwise, I guess, to remake The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie with the cast of “The Hills.”

What helps you get out of bed in the morning?

Tea.

Are there any activities you do to make you feel famous?

Sometimes I wear sunglasses while I’m driving.

What’s more dangerous: a mountain lion or a jelly fish or a bitter ex?

Jellyfish definitely.

Would you rather see a Lakers game next to Jack Nicholson or a Knicks game next to Spike Lee or a cute animal safari?

I’d like to go on a cute animal safari with both of them.
