I don’t really have a strong opinion on Yahoo’s acquisition of Tumblr. I’m just wondering if Yahoo is going to look at the blogs I follow and things I like and find a way to sell that to advertisers. Granted, there’s not a lot of real great information…. well, let’s say, not necessarily the most exciting information. I like soccer and basketball. I love posting photos of other peoples’ pets. I’m semi obsessed with Kristen Stewart. I watch a lot of movies.

Anyways, that’s Maru and his roommates. If they were a band, it would be a great album cover.

I haven’t read his book yet because I’m waiting for the audio version of it, but William Friedkin had an interesting take on remakes. In an interview with Elvis Mitchell, Friedkin said that he had no problems with remakes and talked about theater. Do we call new productions of classic plays remakes? No, they’re just new productions. To a certain extent, I agree with Friedkin’s assessment.

In the interview and I assume more in depth in his book, Friedkin mentioned that he talked to Henri-Georges Clouzot, the director of Wages of Fear before starting production on Sorcerer and how he felt it was important to change the title.

Which brings me to Will Smith’s involvement with the long purposed remake of Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch. I have no problem with Will Smith’s potential desire in making an ensemble action film. Will Smith and his production company could turn it into an A List version of The Expendables. For some reason, I see Will Smith and Bradley Copper as the main two because Bradley Copper has to be involved in a every single film between now and the end of time.

In this modern update, it’ll probably be some burned out DEA agents and a couple of Iraq war vets hitting a Mexican drug cartels and there will be action sequences and one liners and a lot of male bonding. That’s fine. That’s what a men on a mission film is supposed to be. However, they don’t have to call it, The Wild Bunch. Yes, it’s a great title for a film and I have to assume, they’re calling it a remake so they’ll slightly justified about using the line, “If they move, kill ‘em.”

I would have been completely fine with a Wild Bunch remake if the late great Tony Scott was directing because he was the only director capable of carrying on the legacy of Peckinpah.

If Will Smith is keen on making an action film again, why not call up Michael Bay and get the band together for Bad Boys 3 like the almighty Diet Cock suggested? Or call Michael Mann in for a meeting? I’m sure Michael Mann has a fresh and original take on Mexican drug cartels and could craft an engaging star vehicle.

Whatever Will Smith does, just don’t call it The Wild Bunch or Extreme Prejudice, Walter Hill’s de facto Wild Bunch homage/remake.
